I have luckily read an excellent book titled: MAN’S SEARCH FOR MEANING. This is a book with more than 12 million copies sold worldwide by author Viktor E. Frankl.

Man's search for meaning

Do you want to have a healthy body, a high immune system to live? If so, read this book. One of the valuable lessons that I personally learned from the book is: no matter how harsh the circumstances, finding for yourself the meaning of life will help you overcome adversity.

The book haunts readers with images of cruelty in the environment of the Nazi concentration camp, where prisoners are beaten, starved, and may….die at any time. .. Life is something that is very easily taken away. Prisoners here are skin and bones, sick, humiliated, weak, can’t walk…. physically and mentally exhausted. But the author, who is also a psychiatrist, has been looking for a solution to why some people can’t stand it and die, while others can survive and wait until their liberation.

This concentration camp tested human endurance to the limit, and the author was truly amazed at his own endurance.

Here is an excerpt from the book: “We were unable to clean our teeth, and yet, in spite of that and a severe vitamin deficiency, we had heathier gums than ever before. We had to wear the same shirts for half a year, until they had lost all appearance of being shirts. For days we were unable to wash, even partially, because of frozen water-pipes, an yet the sores and abrasions on hands which were dirty from work in the soil did not suppurate (that is, unless there was frost-bite).”

And when a prisoner gives up everything, it will lead to the foreshadowing result: DEATH.

“The prisoner who had lost faith in the-his future – was doomed. With his loss of belief in the future, he also lost his spiritual hold; he let himself decline and became subject to mental and physical decay. Usually, this happened quite suddenly, in the form of a crisis, the symptoms of which were familiar to the experienced camp inmate. We all feared this moment – not for ourselves, which would have been pointless, but for our friends. Usually it began with the prisoner refusing one morning to get dressed and wash or to go out on the parade grounds. No entreaties, no blows, no threats had any effect. He just lay there, hardly”

“The ultimate cause of my friend’s death was that the expected liberation did not come and he was severely disappointed. This suddenly lowered his body’s resistance against the latent typhus infection. His faith in the future and his will to live had become paralyzed and his body fell victim to illness – and thus the voice of his dream was right after all.

Whenever there was an opportunity for it, one had to give them a why – an aim – for their lives, in order to strengthen them to bear the terrible how of their existence.” Yes, the reason to live is very important and keeps your body and mind to increase the resistance. That is the observation and practical lesson experienced by the doctor – the author of the book.

Do you want a healthy body? Find a reason for your life: what are you living for? It could be love for your spouse, or it could be love for your children or loved ones. Whatever the reason, it’s fine, as long as it’s important to you.

Mental strength always affects physical strength. It is proven through daily life. We should nourish the immune system with a healthy mind, with a reason to desire to live.
Wish you have a healthy body to live a happy life!
